Our " Spice Jar Shield"

With cold and flu season right around the corner, it’s the perfect time to start prepping your immune system for the months ahead. I’ve been using a simple, homemade remedy for years now, and it’s my go-to whenever I feel the sniffles coming on. Not only do I take it myself, but I also make it for my family, and we all swear by it to keep colds at bay. We call it our Spice Jar Shield—because it sits in the fridge, ready to protect us when we need it most!

What’s in It?

The best part? It’s super easy to make with ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen:

  • 2 tablespoons of fresh ginger: Ginger is an immune booster and has anti-inflammatory properties. It’s perfect for fighting off colds and settling upset stomachs.

  • 2 tablespoons of turmeric: This golden spice is great for reducing inflammation and supporting your body during cold and flu season.

  • 1 tablespoon of garlic: Garlic is nature’s antibiotic. It’s packed with compounds that help your body fight infections and keep your immune system strong.

  • A dash of black pepper: Black pepper helps your body absorb the turmeric more effectively, making sure you get all the benefits.

  • A dash of cayenne pepper: Cayenne adds a little kick and helps clear out congestion while boosting circulation.

  • A dash of cinnamon powder: Cinnamon isn’t just for flavor—it’s an antioxidant powerhouse and helps warm you up from the inside.

  • Honey to cover: Honey sweetens the mix and has its own antibacterial properties. It also helps soothe a sore throat.

How to Make and Store It?

It’s as simple as mixing everything together and storing it in a sealed jar in the fridge.

Here’s how I do it:

  1. Combine all the ingredients in the jar and cover with honey until it’s fully coated giving it a good stir.

  2. Seal the jar and store it in the fridge.

It’s that easy! The mixture will last about four weeks if you’re having it daily, and I suggest you start using it now to prep your body for the colder months ahead.

How to Take It?

There are two easy ways to use it :

  1. Off the spoon: If you feel a tickle in your throat or just want to boost your immune system, take a spoonful straight from the jar. The honey helps it go down smoothly, and you’ll feel the warmth of the spices right away, (my favourite way to take it).

  2. As a warm drink: If you prefer something more soothing, mix a teaspoon of the remedy into hot water and stir well. You can add extra honey if you want it a bit sweeter. This is especially nice if you’re feeling a little under the weather.

Why It Works?

The combination of these ingredients are powerful. Ginger and garlic are natural infection fighters, turmeric and cinnamon help reduce inflammation, and the peppers help clear congestion. Honey ties it all together with its soothing sweetness, making it easy to take whether you’re feeling sick or just want to prevent a cold.

My family and I have been using this for years, and it’s helped us stay healthy through plenty of cold and flu seasons. It’s quick to make, easy to store, and has become a household staple.

As we head into flu season, now is the perfect time to start incorporating The Spice Jar Shield into your daily routine. Whether you take it every day or just reach for it when you start feeling a cold coming on, it’s a simple, natural remedy that can help keep you and your family healthy.

Give it a try—I think you’ll love it as much as we do!
